New Ford Kuga Unveiled

A brand new Ford Kuga has been unveiled. The redesigned SUV features SYNC 3 connectivity, hands free parking, enhanced Active City Stop and a brand new 1.5 litre TDCi 120PS diesel engine.

The new Kuga is said to be sportier, more refined and the most technologically advanced SUV from Ford to date. Since its inception in 2008, the Ford Kuga experienced record sales in 2015 with over 102,000 examples sold. Ford expect to surpass 200,000 for the first time in Europe in 2016.

The new SYNC 3 connectivity system is an 8 inch touch screen that enables drivers to control audio, navigation, climate control and enhanced smartphone voice commands and enables pinch and swipe motions for the first time ever. It also features Apple Car Play and Android Auto to cater for all smartphone users meaning the use of the system will be just like your very own phone.

Active Park Assist now includes Perpendicular Parking using additional ultrasonic sensors at the push of a button. The SUV will automatically steer itself into the parking space while the driver controls the accelerator and the brake. The system also has ‘Cross Traffic Alert’ which tells the driver if something is approaching if they are reversing out of a spot and ‘Park Out Assist’ which helps the driver pull out of parallel parking spaces.

Safety feature continue to be a big part of the Kuga’s new technology with new Active City Stop collision warning system now operating at a speed of 50kmh, where the car will autonomously brake if it detects a collision is imminent. The Ford ‘My Key’ is also available and aimed to keep young drivers safer. This system enables the parent to block incoming phone calls and restrict speed limits and reduce the stereo volume. Doesn’t sound like much fun!

The Ford Kuga itself does look completely refreshed and even more appealing than the outgoing model. It gets an all new front end with an upper trapezoidal grille and a smaller lower grille flanked by new headlamps incorporating new LED daytime running lights. The rear lamps have also been completely restyled and a range of new 17, 18 and 19 inch alloy wheels are now available to choose from. There are also two new colours to choose from including Guard Grey and Copper Pulse and also features an optional automatic retractable tow bar.

Ford say the new interior is now more ergonomic, stylish and comfortable featuring a more intuitive interior with an emphasis on less buttons and switches on the dashboard, while those that opt for the automatic transmission will now benefit from steering wheel mounted gear shift paddles. A new space saving feature includes an automatic handbrake freeing up additional space for storage on the centre console.

We look forward to testing it out later in the year.
